MELBOURNE HOUSE, BEDFORD PARK
Melbourne House (Listed Grade 2) was originally part of a group of three grand Georgian houses that was subsumed by the development of the Bedford Park Garden Suburb in the late 19th Century. It remains relatively hidden from public view but occupies a very large plot close to Norman Shaw’s St Michael and All Angels Church on Turnham Green.
Snell David Architects were asked to obtain approvals for returning the house from flats to a single–family dwelling. This included extensive alterations, improvements various extensions including a frameless glass conservatory providing improved access to the rear garden. Some of these elements were secured on appeal. The roof was raised, extended and re-formed to provide improved bedroom accommodation. A small staff flat is included at lower ground floor level.
