COASTGUARDS COTTAGE

NORTH NORFOLK

Having worked with Snell David in the past, the clients asked us to work on the complete refurbishment of their North Norfolk cottage. The building had been extended in the early 2000s, however further accommodation and a larger kitchen and family room were required to host the growing family. Although the building is not listed we felt it important to preserve the sense of scale to the historic cottage from the front, with all extensions being set back and subservient to the original volume.

The single storey garage extension was replaced with a pitched roof side extension providing an additional room and ensuite. At the back, a contemporary single storey extension was introduced for the new kitchen and dining area, with some soft sitting. The extension opens up to views of the garden and the Norfolk coast beyond. A bay window was introduced to the existing gable at the rear and internal spaces were redesigned to suit the changes to the layout. The project included full rewiring, upgrading of the building fabric and the installation of an air source heat pump to upgrade the property’s heating system.

The works have provided more comfortable and upgraded accommodation to the family, while improving the services and the building’s thermal performance to futureproof the property.
