DARLASTON ROAD

WIMBLEDON

Snell David were appointed to design a new family property on the site of an existing chalet bungalow in Wimbledon, London. The sloping site had a complicated planning history, earlier proposals by the previous owner had been refused by the Authority. The site benefitted from views to the south over Wimbledon and is adjacent to a Listed Church and is part of the West Wimbledon Conservation Area.

The design made use of the natural ground slope, reacted positively and sensitively to the streetscape and Listed Church taking advantage of the south facing garden and views, linking the lower and upper ground floor levels with terraced landscaping.

The project was awarded Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and integrates solar thermal collectors and using Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPS) for the primary structure.

The project was constructed by Thames and Newcastle.
