GAINSFORD END WINDMILL

ESSEX

We were appointed bay a development / building company with whom we had previously worked to obtain planning permission and Listed Building Consent for the conversion, refurbishment and extension of this old windmill.

 

The mill had been out of use for over 60 and was in very dilapidated condition – the sails and cap were missing and many of the mechanical parts had fallen to the ground inside. 

 

A separate ‘contemporary’ barn-like house was constructed alongside with glazed link attachment to the Windmill – it was eventually agreed with the Council that this was the right solution.
