LEE PLACE

WOKING, SURREY

The client had worked with other Architects to re-model the Grade II Listed house, but were frustrated that workable solutions could not be identified. Snell David were then appointed to look at viable options to meet their needs and manage the Listed buiding and Planning requirements with the local Authority.

The house started life as a small cottage which had been extended over the years to a very square and deep plan, this left the stair out of scale and in the wrong place. Given careful consideration of the Listed building, it was possible to extend the property to the rear to maximise views of the garden outdoor pool and golf course beyond. The plan was opened up centrally to allow an open stair to rise to a galleried first floor, with a large elliptical roof-light over allowing daylight to flood through to the centre of the house. The original and more valuable historic parts of the property were restored and retain their original scale and detail.
