SHEPHERDS COTTAGE

BURNHAM DEEPDALE, NORFOLK

After trying unsuccessfully to get their project in North Norfolk underway, Snell David were appointed on a recommendation from previous clients. A complete refurbishment of Shepherds Cottage, a poorly extended holiday home on the coast, was required to create good, wide internal spaces to accommodate large family gatherings and additional bedrooms.

We created a new contemporary wing, mirroring the proportions of the existing cottage, to host a new large kitchen / dining / sitting open plan area. A new, more traditional link was created to connect the old cottage to the new wing. A side extension was re-designed and built on the footprint of the existing southern facing extension. The site was tight, but we managed to maximise its potential and even fit a new double garage.

Shepherds Cottage was an exciting project showing the potential of combining contemporary details next to historic buildings and using traditional materials with a modern twist. In this stunning location, we worked with the client to maximise views from the property by siting the sitting room at first floor level, allowing our clients to enjoy the uninterrupted views across the marshes.
