Snell David Architects were appointed to remodel and extend a three storey semi-detached villa. The house is noted and recorded as a 'Building of Townscape Merit' by the London Borough of Richmond. The property had been extended in the 1980's and 1990's, resulting in a very confused and awkward plan especially as each floor in the extension has a half storey above/below the existing.

Our design brief was to make sense and better use of the considerate amount of space that existed. The solution concentrated on locating the family kitchen space at garden level, replacing the conservatory with a new flat roof extension to create a family eating space. And removing the existing mezzanine floor above the kitchen to create a wonderful bright modern space with improved visual and physical links to the lower ground family spaces and upper ground formal rooms.
