THE OLD MANOR STABLES

CAMBRIDGESHIRE

Snell David worked closely with their recently retired clients to create a comfortable yet creative new use for former stables within their grounds in a village south of Cambridge.

The practice liaised closely with the Local Authority to obtain Listed Building and Planning Consent for alterations on the site including the demolition of a small barn and cart-lodge. This enabled Snell David to refurbish the stable block and link it to a new contemporary wing, construct a traditional barn-style garage to form a new courtyard.

The brief was to create a modern, comfortable, bright, single storey home which is low maintenance and cheap to run. The building has very high levels of insulation and has hot water / underfloor central heating run off a ground source heat pump.
