THE RED LION

CAMBRIDGESHIRE

This grade 2 listed old Coaching Inn dates back to the 15th Century and has experienced change ever since. Its environment has changed a great deal with the coming of the railway line and the main road and to some extent, it has become the victim of this change. In recent years, it has struggled to find its identity in the current marketplace despite its quaint accommodation with bar and restaurant.

The owners’ solution to secure its future as an Hotel has been to build 73 new bedrooms by way of a Holiday Inn Express on the site and extend / alter the old building to accommodate new restaurant, bar and function rooms. Snell David were appointed because of their experience in dealing with Listed Buildings in the area and despite a great deal of opposition from planning and conservation officers, planning and listed building consent was obtained for the extensions and alterations in June 2010.
